Details: The following ghost report comes in from a thirty-nine year old teacher in Madison (Dane county). This particular ghost report is about the old Majestic Theatre and the possibility of it being haunted. The Majestic Theater is located on King Street right off the Capitol Square. Apparently there had been recent remodeling, unexplainable sounds noises or voices were heard, and a ghostly interaction did occur. Here are the details in their own words:
“ While a student at the UW Madison I had several friends and
acquaintances
who worked at the old Majestic Theatre on King Street (just off the
Capitol
Square). At this time the theatre was used as a cinema showing mainly
foreign films and late night shows. It was always someone's job to go
through the aisles with a broom and collect up the paper cups and
popcorn
that
scattered the floor after every show.
Two friends reported having the same experience on separate occasions.
They
were cleaning up in the main theatre after the late show when they
sensed
they were not alone. Looking up they saw a man sitting in the back row
of
the balcony.
The first friend finished his cleaning and, as he was the keyholder,
went
upstairs to wake the man (whom he assumed had fallen asleep) so that he
could leave and lock up. When he got there the balcony was empty -
even
though he had plainly seen the man moments before proceeding up the
stairs,
which were the only entrance and exit to the balcony.
The second friend's tale is downright chilling. He was sweeping the
stage
when he too sensed he was being watched. Glancing up towards the
balcony he
saw a man seated in the back row. My friend gave a courteous wave to
the
man, and the man waved back, and continued waving slowly with both
arms. To
my friend's horror he noticed that as the man continued waving his arms
appeared to extend further and further from his body. My friend
dropped his
broom and left the building immediately. He never did late night
cleanup
after that.
These incidents would have been in 1986 or 87.
I have heard rumors of similar encounters at the Majestic. Surprised
that
it's
never mentioned anywhere.
Would be curious if anyone else had stories about the place.”
Had the employees been witness to a ghost or phantom? Did the ghost simply dematerialize when approached or was it maybe someone who did fall asleep, startled by the employee quickly exited the Majestic Theater? Is it haunted, are there ghosts? Let us know what you think the next time you visit!
